Chapter Eighty: The Road to Unending Ache

Prince Hayden Olymny, you are by order of the king, under arrest.
Hayden stood before Seex and ten other elves.
Hayden
First you'll have to catch me.


A long time ago....

Hayden
Father, does God exist?
Hayden, ten years of age, walked through the forest with his father Godlin.
Godlin
Why do you ask such questions, my child?
Hayden
I've always wondered. I've heard stories of things humans believe and I find it fascinating. Is it true? Is there an author to all of this?
Godlin patted Hayden on the back.
Godlin
I've never gave it very much thought. Look at the trees, the leaves, the very soil you stand on.
Hayden looked down at the ground.
Godlin
I think that you'll find very much doubt that there is an artist beyond this great beauty. There are many problems with our world and the worlds beyond, my son, so if there is a God, he closed his eyes to all this a long time ago.
Hayden
So why do people believe, why believe in something you can't explain with facts?
Godlin
The only answer worthy of such a question is one content with the unknown. I do not know. That is up for one who believes to decide on their own accord. Even if you asked them, I doubt they'd be able to answer.
Hayden
What do you mean? How can one not account for their beliefs with reasons?
Godlin
Because sometimes they don't need a reason to begin with.
Hayden stopped walking. Godlin continued.
Godlin
Relax, Hayden, we are elf.
He turned back to him.
Godlin
We have no use for Gods.
Hayden tugged at his arm.

Hayden

But what about the Firsts?
Godlin
I see you've been paying attention to your history teachers.
Hayden nodded.
Godlin
The Firsts were a long time ago. Their beliefs are irrelevant, I'm afraid.
Hayden
But they believed in a god.
Godlin
Is that what they tell you? I have good reason to believe Lazarus thought himself a god. If you recall, he ate a dragon whole. The first dragon.
Hayden
And the last. I recall.
He pointed at his head.
Godlin
And the last. Very good. It does not seem as though I have anything to teach you about the Firsts.
Hayden
But I don't understand it! Elf were born of many things, the first was Lazarus of the fire, the second Sonla of the water, and the third Godwar of the stone?
Godlin
That is correct. They were the Firsts. Do you know whom we are decedents from?
Hayden
That's easy, grandpa Godwar.
Godlin smiled.
Godlin
That's correct. We are the bloodline of the stone.
Hayden
Uncle Kon is as well. Queen Circa is Sonla.
Godlin
You get an A for the class.
Hayden
What happened to Grandpa and Sonla?
Godlin
Your class has not arrived at that, I see. Well, Godwar and Sonla, Lazarus included, decided they'd all pass on.
Hayden
They'd die?
Godlin
Yes. All three of them entered the Eye of Peace in order to pass on. This was the plan. Lazarus, however, did not see it through. Once your grandpa disappeared and Sonla, he harnessed their life forces.
Hayden
How did he do that?
Godlin
We still have no clue to this day. After he left the Eye of Peace, he declared himself king of all the realms. At the time he had three children. Alizar, his oldest, Florence his oldest daughter, and his wife Myca had just given birth to their youngest daughter Solara. This was the Laurent family.
Hayden
What happened next?
Godlin
Circa declared war. With Caldinar declaring war, Kon and I had no choice but to follow. Despite the loss of my father, I still thought diplomacy was the most valid path. Godwar had chosen to welcome death, and he did, just as Sonla did. Lazarus took advantage of that, yes, but he did not kill them.
Hayden
So why go to war?
Godlin
If not, the Sonla line would have ended. Circa and Carnic were all Sonla left behind, and Sonla was like a mother to us.
Hayden
So you went to war. Carnic died, yes?
Godlin
That he did. He was a gentle one, that one. So young and unseasoned. Alizar killed him on the battlefield. Alizar, gentle in nature as well, did so with only pain on his face, it is said. Alizar, after all, was only doing the bidding of his father. Enraged, Circa pressed the attack to its limits. We almost lost that day. It was in the last hour of that day that Alizar fell. Kon and I brought him down, Circa took his life. She said it wasn't revenge, she said it was just the cycle of death.
Hayden
Did you believe her? Do you believe her?
Godlin
I've never trusted a word Circa has ever said. Remember that, young one. Sonla was pure, Circa is corrupt.
Godlin turned to face Hayden with a look Hayden could only describe as regretful.
Godlin
After that, Lazarus was forced to lead his armies with Florence.
Hayden
Florence?
Godlin
Yes. She was young, not much older than you are, but she was a natural in battle. They continued the war after that, even with the loss of Alizar. Before the war was over, both side were tired. All seemed lost. It wasn't until an elf by the name of Cayos came forward with a way to stop the Laurent family. He created energy omit bands. With these we were able to stop the Laurent family. We harnessed all our power and poured into the heart of Kesladon. It was the battle of elf life.
Godlin sat down on a rock.
Godlin
Lazarus, Florence, and even Myca joined the battle. I bested Florence and pressed the omit bands around her ankle and neck. As I turned around, Myca was also taken down, power bands around both her wrists by Kon. We joined Circa in the battle against Lazarus.
Hayden
How powerful was he?
Godlin
The most powerful being this planet has ever encountered. Our power together was barely able to fend him off.
Hayden
So how did you all stop him?
Godlin
Cayos brought chaos into battle. He had Solara in his arms. Lazarus was never mad, nor was he in any sense of the word evil. Lazarus was just one of the First, and believed himself king.
He looked out to the lake.
Godlin
As soon as he realized Solara was at stake he dropped down to his knees and gave himself over.
He then looked at his own feet.
Godlin
He was fine with his children dying in battle, though I heard he cried greatly for the loss of Alizar, but he was not going to allow Solara to die. That is how the war ended.
He stood up.
Godlin
Lazarus was given omit rings on his neck, wrists, waist, and ankles. We could not risk him rising again.
Hayden
And his wife and children?
Godlin
I could not save them all.
Hayden's eyes widened.
Godlin
Circa killed Myca minutes after Lazarus called for peace and she did so brutally right before his eyes. It was a bloody mess. She was going to do them all, even Solara. It was too late for Lazarus to change his mind. Too late for him to even lift a muscle.
Hayden
But no one else was killed.
Godlin
No. I demanded Florence be left in my custody. That she'd join my house as a guard. Kon demanded the same for Solara.
Hayden
He married her. Solara is a Laurent!
Godlin nodded.
Godlin
Yes, and Florence is part of my royal guard.
Hayden
And then there was peace.
Godlin
For a short time. Peace never lasts.
Hayden was silent for a moment.
Hayden
They say Lazarus ate the first and last dragon. Is that true?
Godlin
Yes. It was with the heart of it, the blood of the dragons he created the weapons we found in his treasure room.
Hayden
The dragon blades.
Godlin nodded.
Godlin
The strongest weapons known to elf. He created one creator blade, two after that, and then four followed. It was from this idea that we of the Godwar family created the Eagle blades. I myself was never fond of dragons. That is why I call Zohar my friend, while the sword Circa took up is Zarathustra. Kon himself fastened twin dragon blades, and the others remained in their slumber.
Hayden
What of Lazarus' blade? Who received that?
Godlin
No one. That we never found, that he never used. No one knows of the whereabouts of the first sword to make contact with dragon blood.
Hayden
The sword of the dragon Thoushalt.


Hellia
Is your father filling your mind with unimportant things again?
Hayden hugged his mother.
Hayden
No, never! Every thing father says is important.
Godlin
Always questioning my parenting, Queen Hellia.
Hellia
It's the role of Queen after all to question the work of the king.
Godlin
Or simply a good mother.
He kissed her.
Hayden
Can we go to Mt. Riktee now?

Hayden ran through the forest at a speed no human could.
Kon
I'll catch you!
Kon grabbed him by the arm and wrapped it around his back.
Hayden
I give up!
Kon let him go.
Kon
You're improving. I think your father would be proud.
Hayden stood up straight.
Hayden
Soon I will be able to defeat even you, uncle Kon.
Kon laughed.
Kon
Don't kid yourself, I love you kid, but I'm a king.
Hayden
And I will be one too!
Kon rubbed Hayden's head.
Kon
Not anytime soon, buddy boy.
Hayden
Well, why not? I am next in line after my father.
Kon
Yes, but as you know, we elf have very long lives. You would probably be his age now before you became king,
Hayden crossed his arms.
Hayden
That's a long time.
Kon
Not the way we live. Relax, it will feel like tomorrow when it comes.
Hayden
Will you ever have a son, Uncle Kon?
Kon laughed hysterically.
Kon
I'm not sure. I want a child but then I don't. Call me split. These things are never easy to decide.
Hayden
What if you have a daughter?
Kon
Well, then I have a daughter. Kesladon is open to a Queen ruling. I am not opposed to the idea. I can only hope she does not turn out like Circa.
Hayden
Queen Circa isn't bad, I like her!
Kon
You don't know her. People always like terrible people they don't know.
Kon poked Hayden's face.
Kon
There is much you don't know yet.
Hayden
Well then I'll learn!
Kon
It's going to take some time and a lot of books.
Hayden
I'm not afraid of words.
Kon
Well, you should be. You really should be, my little nephew.
He walked off.
Kon
Words can destroy entire planets. When you understand that, then you might make a good king.
He was gone.
Hayden
I'll be a better king than all of you one day.
Kon
I heard that!
He said from a distance.


An eighteen year old looking Hayden bowed before a naked woman getting out of a lake.
Hayden
Queen Circa, I am here by your request.
Circa
Ah, yes, Prince Hayden, you've come. How are you?
Hayden
I am well, and yourself?
Circa
As well as I could possibly be. I take it your lands are enjoying the peace I've given them?
Hayden nodded.
Circa
Well good, peace is to always be desired over war. A universal truth, would you agree?
Hayden
I agree.
Circa
Though peace can't always live.
Hayden
What do you mean?
Circa
Ask your uncle Kon. I called you here to send a message to your father.
Hayden stood up straight.
Circa
Let him know that Caldinar is going to war with Kesladon.
Hayden
You can't do that!
Cayos
She can do what she pleases, she is queen after all.
Cayos came into view.
Cayos
My queen, your escort is here.
Circa was already under her cloak. She approached Hayden.
Circa
No matter what the outcome of this message, I hope you'll understand.
She kissed Hayden on the cheek.
Circa
You are a beautiful creature. I promise my people will never hurt you.
Cayos stretched his hand and she grabbed it.
Circa
However, I can't promise the same for the rest of Oleandria.
Hayden
Why, why must you all be at war every day?
Circa almost laughed as she kept walking with Cayos.
Circa
That question does not exist, and because of that, neither does an answer.

Hayden stirred in his bed. His eyes opened. It felt like he hadn't slept at all. He sat up in his bed, the room was cold. As it should be during the winter.
Hayden
Must they make war?
Hayden said softly. To his surprise there was a response.
Voice
It is within the nature of all creatures that have the ability to understand love and hate.
Hayden had no idea where this voice came from.
Voice
I am in your head, not the world around you.
Hayden
What trickery is this?
Voice
None at all. I mean you no harm, Prince Hayden Alexander Olymny.
Hayden
If you mean to kill me, you would bring war to your lands you could not imagine.
Voice
I have already made it clear that I do not wish to kill you. Even a fool knows better then to kill the only son of a king. Especially one named Godlin.
Hayden
So you know of me, of my father?
Voice
And your mother. I know more than anyone else on this planet.
Hayden
Who are you?
He moved to the edge of the bed.
Voice
I am no one. No one at this moment.
Hayden
Well no one, if you are not going to reveal yourself, I suggest you go somewhere else. Tomorrow Caldinar and Kesladon are -
Voice
Going to war. Yes, I know.
Hayden
But only my father and I know this. You must work for Caldinar!
Voice
Foolish child, will you hold your tongue and allow me to speak?
Hayden was finally silent.
Voice

Hayden did not know what this meant.

I have found myself trapped in utter existence itself. I've sat for millions of years through every transition of this planet and others. Godlin, Kon, and Circa each sat at a round table. Hellia stood behind Godlin, Cayos behind Circa, and Daskil behind Kon. In the dark corner of the room stood Hayden.
Circa
I've yet to hear an apology.
Kon
Because you aren't going to get one. I'd rather wage war with you than let you think for a minute that you are correct in all this.
Circa
You killed the man I love.
Kon
He ran into my sword, he killed himself. It would be wrong to blame me and not his eyesight.
Circa
Only logic Kesladon could birth.
Kon stuck his tongue out.
Godlin
My brother, those that are above apology are below average.
Kon
I was never good at sports anyways.
Godlin
I am not playing games here, Kon. You may think it fit to speak to Circa in the way that you do but I will not stand for it in my halls. Kesladon enjoys Oleandria as its ally, I suggest you watch the weight of your words, in jest or not.
Kon could only produce a dirty look.
Godlin
Now, Circa.
They both looked at each other.
Godlin
Your lover is dead and time stops for no one. I do not think war is justified by the life of one.
Circa
It is when it's family.
Godlin
I was not allowed to finish. I agree. What Kon did was horrendous.
Circa
Disgusting. He stabbed peace in the heart with my lover.
Godlin
As to why he has done this, I have no idea.
Kon
Because the line of Caldinar must be broken. You want truth? I made sure your throne never sees a king.
Circa stood up.
Circa
Fool, you should then make sure it has no queen. My fury has no limit and you are but an idiot child. If your concern is with the power of Caldinar, I suggest you move to kill me next. After that, plan for the funeral of Kesladon because thats all it will bring. Death! That's all war ever brings.
Godlin
And why must death be invited to our lands?
Kon
Because some of us don't deserve to live.
 
Hayden
Unending ache?
Voice
You could call that life. Young Hayden, life as you know it is at risk of ending.
Hayden
How and from what? What threatens the very existence of it?
Voice
There are many reasons.
Hayden
Tell me! When I am king I will make sure they do not happen!
Voice
They will, yet you will do your best to stop this. To save existence, as you know it.
Three fires erupted on his bed in front of him.
Voice
The future holds three fires that will save this world. The miracle sons.
The flames changed their colors. One blue, one purple, one gold.
Voice
The gold flame, this is the great golden baby. He will be the orchestrator of all that will happen in many years to come. He will make sense of reality, he will set up the game, he will lead the war. He will play the villain, but he will never truly be that. You must protect this one at all costs.
Hayden
Golden baby?
Voice
The blue flame will be broken, alone, and powerful. He will lay waste to much of life like the golden one, yet he will do so out or rage, not pure reason. His heart will be buried beneath rubble of his past. He can be saved, he must be if life shall continue to grow. The blue flame is broken strength.
Hayden
Broken strength.
Voice
The purple flame, the heart on fire. This will be the one to unite them all. The world needs a new light and he must be that light. When this heart is set to burn, it will burn through the entire universe and it will give it a glow it has never had. The universe will find peace.
The voice paused for a moment.
Voice
The golden baby, the broken strength, and the heart on fire. They are the future of existence, the blood of moon.
Hayden
What does that mean? The blood of the moon?
Voice
The final breaths of existence before its climax will happen under the moon.
Hayden, now looking like his present day self, sat in the hallway with Seex, waiting to see queen Circa. Cayos entered through the doors that led outside.
Cayos
Oh my, what a surprise. I did not know rare prince was on the menu for dinner.
Seex stood up before Hayden could.
Seex
Caldinar soil or within the great halls of Oleandria, the blood of the Olymny family will not be spoke to in such a manner.
Hayden
At ease, lady Seex. We mustn't let the words of fools ignite fires.
Cayos
I see you've grown wise in such little time, prince Hayden.
The doors to the throne room were opening.
Cayos
Must be the voices in your head.
He smiled widely. Hayden did not display his surprise.

Voice
He can't possibly know.
Hayden
I have not told anyone. It has been many years since I first heard you.
Voice
This matter is not as pressing as it seems out of context so do not let it give you pause any longer. Cayos of Caldinar has voices of his own in his head he must attend to.
Hayden
You're right.
He sat on the bed.
Hayden
How was your day?
Voice
My days are always the same, tragic and beautiful. As it should be when every birth and every death must be witnessed.
Hayden
That must be so painful. I can't imagine it.
Voice
One day I will be free from this.
Hayden
Will you? How? When?
Voice
I do not know how or when, but I will be. I will live through flesh. It has been foreseen.
Hayden fell asleep.

Godlin
You seem troubled, my son.
Hayden
They say the wise are those that remain silent.
Godlin
Yes, but they don't do it by choice.
They walked through the forest they always did. Hayden knew it well.
Godlin
I worry about you.
Hayden
As should a father.
Godlin
If there was something wrong, you'd tell me, correct?
Hayden
Yes, father.
Godlin
I've raised you well. You've made me so proud.
Hayden did not say anything.
Godlin
One day this will all be yours. Oleandria will be yours to rule.
Hayden

Godlin

He kissed his head.
Godlin

Hayden kept back his tears.

It is time I tell you of the terror the world faces.
Hayden
I am listening.
Voice
One is a man of great darkness, though through your vision you will only see a boy. He is of a race of another world.
Hayden
Another world? The humans?
Voice
Worse. He is of the Sky Walkers.
Hayden
Father told me they are extinct.
Voice
He lied. He will not be the only one of that race wielding chaos. Just as well, his sister will be. She will be a great threat. With their power combined they could rule everything.
Hayden
How could I stop them? How could we?
Voice
Let me finish. Last there will be a boy, not of Sky Walker or human. What he will be is unknown to even me. You will love this boy. He will be like a son to you.
Hayden
How can this be?
Voice
You shall see. Odd, how life plays the way it does.
Hayden
I shall kill him in his youth.
Voice
No, you won't. He will be someone closest to your heart, along with your children.
Hayden

Yes, two.

He doesn't have to if he finds the entire situation unappealing.
Godlin

Hayden stood between his mother and father.
Hellia
That means nothing! Unless you forget he is my son, as well!
Godlin
Hayden, you should be on the front lines!
Hayden
I am not a fighter, father. I have no appetite for it.
Godlin
It's in your blood! Even kings and princes must fight in their wars.
Hayden
This isn't my war.
Hellia
If he must go, give him his sword. Give him it.


Voice
It's almost time. You have your blade now. You must take the others. I've shown you the way to break the binds they have with their masters and tie them to others.
Hayden
Thank you for all this. Cyrill is overjoyed!
Voice
He should be. They do not belong in this world. You will give them to the first three people you trust.
Hayden
How will I know?
Voice

Hayden was silent for a moment.
Voice
You are giving up your life here for all this. Your sacrifice is great, but the reward is greater. If you do not take the swords and leave, the worlds stand no chance.
Hayden
But what if I am not enough? What if you're wrong?
Voice
I will be wrong about a great many of things, but I won't be about this.
Hayden stood up.
Hayden
I'm afraid.
Voice
You should be. Great peril awaits you, and it gives you the chance to be brave. Be brave, young Hayden, and you will be a part of the group of people that changed the universe.
Hayden got into bed.
Hayden
I will be brave.
Voice
You won't be alone in all this. Once it begins, there will be others to help you. Look forward to that. The golden one will, as well as an animal like snow, and a protective father of the boys. Most of all, you'll have your daughter. You just have to leave this world to find her.
Hayden
She's out there?
Voice
She will be. I promise.
Hayden closed his eyes.
Hayden
Stranger.
Voice
Yes?
Hayden
I am tired now. Would it be too much to ask if you'd sing me to sleep?
Voice
Not at all.
She began to softly sing.

Cayos bowed before Queen Circa.
Cayos
My lord, the assassins are ready. You'll find them up to the task.
Circa did not move from her seat.
Circa
They better, Cayos. You've had the better part of five years to complete this. I hope to be moved by the outcome.
Cayos giggled.
Cayos
In due time, my lady, my queen.

Voice
You will see her, and you will fall in love.
Hayden battled three Caldinar elves at once. He had joined his father in battle. Battle came easy to him, slaying did not. He was never a fan of it. He was surrounded by now.
Voice
She will be the mother of your son one day.

Hayden

My son?
Voice
Indeed.
Florence fell down next to him, her red sword raised. Her long orange hair flowed onto his shoulders.
Hayden
You are from my father's guard.
She nodded. She raised her sword. They did battle.
Voice
She is a Laurent. This union will be frowned upon.
Hayden
But Kon took Solara as his wife.
Voice
Solara bared the sins of her people, Florence helped create them.
Florence turned back to him and smiled. She drove her sword into a fallen elf.
Hayden
I will not hold that against her.
Voice
But the world will. Judgment knows no mercy.
She walked up to him and shook his hand.
Hayden
Thank you.
She smiled and walked away. The battle of the day had been won.
Voice
You must have her join you. You must remove her from your father's guard.
Hayden
I will.

Hayden landed in front of the palace.
Voice
Have you gotten them all?
Hayden was out of breath. He nodded.
Voice
You must hurry.
Hayden
I want to see my parents one last time.
Voice
Quickly!

Hayden walked up the steps.
Voice
Does your heart hurt?
Hayden
(No, but it's quite heavy at the moment.)
Voice
The pressure is beyond belief. You've made every step count.
Hayden opened the doors.
Hayden
(I hope it matters. This better work.)
Voice
Have faith, young one.
Time slowed.
Hayden
(What's going on?)
Voice
It's a rift in time. I am not sure what is going on as well.

Hayden

(Figure it-)

Oh my.
Hayden
(What is it?)
Hayden was about to hug his father when a dark figure dropped between them.
Voice
The dark figures.
Hayden slashed down the dark figure.
Voice
You must leave now.
Godlin turned around slowly, unaware of what was going on. Hellia was screaming as more dark figures burst through the palace windows.
Hayden
(I want to say goodbye!)
Voice
You must leave now!
A tear came down Hayden's right eye.
Godlin
My son, you saved me!
Hayden disappeared. He didn't know if his parents were able to read his goodbye lost on his lips.

Circa screamed and killed elves around her.
Circa
Where is my blade?! Where is Zara?!
She pushed Cayos onto his back.
Circa
I want my baby back!

Kon burst through the Oleandria palace.
Kon
They're gone!
Godlin
What is?
Kon
Ayn and Nya! They've completely went missing and I can't sense them!
Godlin
It has to be the work of Circa.
Kon
What of yours? Is Zohar still with you?
The golden sword appeared in his left hand.
Godlin
Yes, but I've lost much worse.
Kon
What could be worse?
Godlin
Hayden is gone.

Hayden landed by the portal to the human world.
Voice
Are you ready?
Hayden
What did you see? What was so important that I could not even tell my parents goodbye?
Voice
It might be best that you are kept ignorant.
Hayden
TELL ME!
The forest shook. There was silence between them.
Voice
Hayden, I saw the end of existence. I saw powers beyond comprehension.
Hayden
The Sky Walker?
Voice
Yes, and elf power as well. New and old.
Hayden
The kings and queen of these lands.
Voice
And much worse I could not make clear.
Hayden
Is that all? Is there nothing else?
Voice
I also saw a woman and three black demons.
Hayden
Demons?
Voice
They called her mother. Hayden, all seems unknown now.
Hayden felt the universe shake with the voice's words. He could not show her he was scared.
Hayden
We'll stick to the plan! It's all we have.
Voice
Be careful out there.
Hayden
What do you mean? 
Voice
I cannot follow you from here.
Hayden
Why not? 
Voice

Hayden fought back tears.

Hayden nodded. He stopped right before he was about to enter.

He passed through.

I think so.
Amya
Yes.
Amron did not reply. Hayden was holding him in his arms.
Hayden
And you, little one?
He buried his head in his shoulder.
Amron
I want mom.
Hayden

Hayden hugged him tightly. He did not understand how he had come to love this child so quickly.

Amron cried in silence.

The giant eagle flew overhead with another.

Hayden walked up to Amron.

What's wrong?
Amron had been facing the other way.
Amron

You get one that has already been name. It's a special sword.
Amron
Special? Special how?
Hayden
It belonged to a queen of my world. A powerful queen. This sword is the strongest of its kind.
Amron allowed himself a half smile.
Amron
And it's mine?
Hayden
It's yours.
A black sword appeared in Hayden's hands. He placed it slowly in Amron's hands.

The sword glowed in his hands.
Hayden
Zarathustra, yes, that's it.

Amron
I miss my mom.
Hayden sat in the grass with a young Amron.
Hayden
That's only natural. I'm sure she misses you, wherever she is.
Amron
Do you think that's possible?
Hayden
My life has taught me that much is. Don't worry your heart, Ron, your mom is with you always.
Amron
I don't believe that. If she was, I'd be able to hug her, to hold her, to have her kiss me on the forehead.
Hayden was saddened by this.
Hayden

Amron did not respond, he simply put his head on Hayden's shoulder.

It will always be my pleasure, Ron. You children are my life now.
Amron smiled and touched Hayden's hand. Hayden was rushed with happiness.
Amron
I love you, Hayden.
Hayden
And I you, little one. No matter what happens.

Many years later...
Amya
I have no interest in words with you.
Hayden
Come back, Amya, your brother needs you. Both of them do.
Amya drank her wine.
Amya
I have not been moved by your pleas. I work for the American government. Allow Amron to drown in his misguided sorrow and allow Amros to do what he pleases. I have no quarrel with The White Coats, just so long as you do what you set out to do. Protect humans.

Hayden stood up.

Florence stood at the top of a hill. She smiled. A boy appeared at her side. He was just about the height of her shoulders. At her leg appeared another boy. He wrapped himself around her leg.

Florence nodded.

The oldest boy spoke, his voice parallel to Hayden's.

He grabbed the hand of his little brother.
